What are the pros and cons of getting a degree?
Answered By Editor
Online learning's primary attraction is
flexibility. It allows you to work at the
comforts of your home, at your convenience,
at your own pace. A busy professional need
not quit his job while finishing an MBA
degree online. A housewife can still attend
to her family and home while working on her
masters degree online. It saves you also from
a lot of money. Tuition fee is lesser
compared to a regular university; no
transportation fees going to school; lesser
requirements and projects to spend on. Some
distance learning programs even offer
scholarships for qualified students.
Moreover, a student controls the pacing of
his education. He can speed up on topics that
are easy for him, and he can slow down on
those which are more complicated or has more
requirements.
On the other hand, others believe that
distance learning deprives the student the
social interaction that a regular school
program offers. Because learning is done
virtually through chatrooms and bulletin
boards, there is lesser opportunities for
more interactive classroom discussions and
interactions with other students. Other
distance learners easily lose interest or
motivation because of the limited social
interaction. Students also have a tendency to
procrastinate especially since they control
their own schedule and the system is less
rigid than a regular school.
